Paella

On Thursday my grammer class was having a conversation about norms in Spainish culture and some of the products found in each province. We were talking about how in Andalucia fish and seafood is very cheap while in Castilla y León it is much more expensive. When I went home to eat lunch after classes I was very exicited to see that my host mom had made paella. However, when I looked at it I discovered that it had shrimp and oysters in it as well. Ever since I was 5 years old I have not eaten seafood, I grew up in California and whenever we walked down the pier the smell always made me sick. When I sat down to eat I thought back to the conversation that we had in class, I didn´t want to waste food nor did I want to waste the money she spent on the fish. So, I bit the bullet and ate the paella, oyster, shrimp and all. It really wasn´t that bad but I never chewed so fast in my life!
I am really glad that the City Colleges required us to take a Spanish culture class before coming to Spain. Because of the class I knew not to leave the lights or not to take more than a five minute shower. But perhaps the most usefull thing I learned is not to take your friends to your host family´s house. When I got back from Madrid my housemate had said that our host mother was angry with her. I asked her how that could be possible she is so nice and easy going, I can´t picture her being angry with one of us. My housemate than told me that she and her friend were walking to our house to possibly study, when they were getting to the door I guess my host mom was also getting home. She than pulled out the contract on her, something that always makes it uncomfortable in the house. As much as I was dreading waking up early on one of my day´s off it was a great idea.
Por la primera vez el jueves, despues la cena yo hablé con mi "madre" por una hora. Puedí entender todo que su dijo. Yo encontré que se trabaja en un hospital tampoco. Yo dijo a ella que yo voy a empezar esculea de enfermeria cuándo yo regreso a Chicago. Cuándo yo lo dijo ella estvo muy entusiasmada, entonces ella empiezó pedir más preguntal sobre mi vida. La conversión estuvo muy buen porque finalment yo puedí hablar sobre mi opinión con cosas. Me gusta hablar con ella, yo entiendo mucho cuándo yo hablo con ella.
