In all of my classes we talk about ways people dress in our countries vs. how Spaniards dress. The thing that comes up the most in all of these discussions is the "European mullet". I just don´t understand why people actually think that this haircut looks good on them or anyone else for that matter. In the states a person might be considered white trash for sporting a mullet, or they might be mocked and laughed at constantly. But in Spain it is everywhere, even women and small children sport this kind of haircut. One of my professors said that people started to where their hair like this because of David Beckam, but he doesn´t even wear his hair like that anymore! Maybe I will just never understand because that is a topic that always comes up.
Before we came to Spain Dr. Paserelli warned the girls that the Spaniard men are more affecionate than American men. I think that the men here are way to affecionate for me and sometimes maybe even cross the line. The first time I went to a club there were guys hounding us before we even walked in the door. My grammar class had a discussion about our likes and dislikes of Spainish culture and this is one of the subjects that came up. She explained that it is not the norm the rest of the year, only when the Americans come to Salamanca to study. She explained that a lot of young girls come to Spain looking for a "latin lover" and this is why the men are more aggressive this time of year. I thought that was a bold assumption for her to make until I had the same conversation with my host mom.
