My favorite thing to do here in Salamanca is sit in the cafes and bars with people and have drinks and tapas. I love the fact that here in salamanca it is a part of the culture to sit in the cafes several times a day and just talk and catch up. I feel like I am learning the most about the culture this way, by people watching. I think that doing this helps people to be less stressed out because they are not working for like 8 hours straight. Everyone gets a chance to just chill out and have a drink.

I am surprised at how the spaniards are very conservative of energy. The lights in my apartment are never on during the day and at night you only turn on the lights in the room you are in. They also take fairly short showers and dont leave the water running ever. They are very good about recycling, there are always recycling bins on the streets which is such a good idea. we should get those in chicago. Also there is no airconditioning. People are used to the heat and that is why they go home and take a break during the afternoon. I think we americans could learn a few things.
