I had a really good weekend in Spain. Which I think is fairly easy to do here. We went to Avila and saw the city wall and the Cathedral of Avila. They were both so beautiful. We also met some really nice people in Avila. Meeting the people was just as great as seeing the sigh
ts of the city. We stopped by this little candy, chocolate, beer store and i took my favorite picture thus far. Que mono!
The next day we went to El Escorial. It was awesome. It was this huge palace with beautiful gardens and i think over 1000 rooms. For me it was so much better than a regular museum. Instead of objects placed on display in rooms like a museum, they have it set up like people still live there, so the whole time you walk through the museum you can pretend you live there and what it would be like to wake up and walk 2 miles to get a cup of coffee. The gardens were really neat and smelled really weird, to me like cat pee. It made me miss my cat. Throughout my entire time here and i am sure others will agree that when people talk to you in spanish and you understand them you often say ¨si¨ to ensure them that you know what they are saying or at least the subject of what they are talking about. We took the tour of the palace in english. Everytime the tour guide would say something, i noticed Ella, Aubrey, and I would say ¨si¨. As if letting him know that we understood everything he was saying. I am sure he thought it was really weird especially because of how enthusiastic we were saying it because we really did understand everything he was saying.

AMTrack mama!

Ella and I have been studying in the park after tutoring sessions. It is helpful. We started from Spanish 101 and are going over simple things to make sure we are using little words like eso y le and me correctly. I have also been writing down all of the verbs I feel like I should know by now and conjugating them 3 ways: past, present, and future. I have picked out about 200 verbs and have conjugated quite a few of them so far. Although I don´t have future tense irregular verbs down yet, it at least helps me recognize the verbs when people say them.
It was weird to think how much vocabulary I thought I knew before I came here. Once we arrived I realized how I had only touched the tip of the iceberg. All of the words I knew were only small talk. When it comes to learning things about history and environment and stuff in our cultural classes I realized my vocabulary was quite shallow. I have also tried to make lists of the new words I learn everyday, but I cannot keep track of them all.

No necesitan almohadas elaboradas.

My classes are going better, I definitely understand more and my comprehension level has definitely increased maybe all the way to 50%. Thank G for those words that sound similar in Spanish and English, i can´t think of what they are called right now. I think I´ve made a good improvement from last week but it is still frustrating. My vocabulary has increased. I know my listening skills have improved because it only seems like the teachers are talking 80 km/hour instead of 100 km/hour. I really like all of my teachers and I look forward to going to class. My grammar class is definitely the hardest but I am learning a lot. I haven´t really been going out this week but I am really tired. I think in may be due to the lack of vegetables I have been eating.
My roommate and I went out for a glass of wine in the Plaza the other night. We sat on the south side where that band plays. It was really fun to watch them. There were about 10 men playing in the band I think. There were lots of different little guitars, an accordion, a stand-up bass, and some more instruments I had never seen. They were all amazing singers. It was weird how many instruments there were but it wasn´t very loud at all. You could still really pick out all of the different instruments if you wanted to. Everybody had such a nice soft touch on all of their instruments.

Pude he tenido una guitarra. Echo mi guitarra.

I went salsa dancing for the first time last night. It was pretty fun, for me, but probably not for my various dance partners. The only thing i could really do was this dance called the ¨Jitter Bug¨with a salsa beat. But i am going to say that counts as salsa dancing and will check that off as done on my todo list. We went to the bus station today to buy some bus tickets and I felt like my spanish was really bad. It is weird how it goes so up and down all of the time -- and by up i mean i am only just bad. Aubrey and Mirielle told her we needed 4 tickets total, but we wanted to pay for 2 on one credit card and 2 on the other. So she sold us two and Aubrey signed for it and recieved the tickets and then she told us there was only one left. Kind of weird. So we had to change those tickets and then she forgot to charge me for one ticket, so then she had to charge my card again and it was all very confusing to me. Needless to say, i need to call my Credit Card company tonight and make sure I got charged the correct amount.
After the Bus Station Mirielle and i waited for about 20 minutes on the wrong street for a city bus. When we realized it, we went a block down and the bus was just pulling up as we were a half a block away. We ran. We made it because the bus driver waited for us. He didn´t even seem mad. In Chicago, whenever a bus stops i swear they make a point to drive away if they see someone running and if you do happen to make it, they are not happy about it.
Yo vi la pelicula, Harry Potter. Fue en Espanol. Tuve mucho cansada.
