Después corrí a San Boal y llegué a tiempo.

When I returned later on that day, I tried to explain to Luis the reason for my very late nights. I explained to him that his mother didn't believe that I was really studying. He laughed and said, "I don't believe you either." But after dinner I talked to him more about the extra work that my college had assigned me and explained that's why I was always so busy. It seemed like he was starting to understand and later he even defended me against his mother. Of course, its not that she was really upset and I knew the lecture she gave earlier was for the most part, tongue-in-cheek.

Although my host mother is a very religious person, she doesn't impose her beliefs on me, rather she firmly presents them. She is a little bit stubborn but I take most of her religious rhetoric as old fashioned good advice. It is not important how she thinks I am spending my time in Salamanca. What I think is most important to both of us, is that there is mutual respect given within the house. Also, I think her criticism is her way of demonstrating a sort of affection as she often compares my "habits" to her own sons. I just wish I could reciprocate her gesture by being present more within the household. If only she had wireless internet.
