On Friday Alison, Jerry, and I took a train to Madrid. In my grammar class my professor had explained that when there is a group of Spanish women speaking you hear not one, but all of them trying to speak at the same time. On the two and a half hour trip to Madrid we sat next to five women who appeared to be on a business trip. My professor could have not been more truthfull, when one women spoke the others would begin as well to try to make themselves heard. I don´t even think they were quite for more than five minutes before they erupted into disorganized conversation. I´m glad I brought my I-Pod, I put my earphones on and was able to catch a good nap. Jerry, on the other hand, forgot his and was not able to ride in peace and quite.
When we got to Madrid we made our way to the hostel by way of the subway. I couldn't believe how cheap it was in Madrid vs. Chicago. We bought a 10 ride ticket for 6 euros, much cheaper than in Chicago. I thought the trains were going to be dirty and scummy because Madrid is such a big city. Not only were they super clean but they had more signs directing traffic making it very user friendly. The thing that I liked the most is the trains didn't stop and go like the CTA, it was a smooth ride to every stop. If CTA wants to improve their transit system they should model it after Madrid's.
